I discovered my roots
Just back from a 3-day pilgrimage...
This one will be more journal-ish than usual cause I just came back from a trip and going on another one tomorrow. But these letters are sacred, so I’ll write something anyways.
I spent the past 3 days exploring temples and holy sites across Rajasthan and Haryana with some 50 people. These comprised family and friends, but mostly unknown faces. Not my kind of trip, moving in bus for hours at end, staying in not-so-fancy places, eating simple food. But it was still very nice in its own way.
For starters, the unknown faces became familiar very soon. In just a day or two, people were calling me by name. There was this lovely 5-year-old girl making lots of fans right from the beginning. She danced, she talked and played with everyone, she recited poems, and was just adorable to look at. She was the mascot of this trip, the highlight.
During our meals, the restaurant was short on staff. So some of us started serving the rest. In no time, everyone was serving everyone which was delightful to witness. It felt so homely, so comforting and organic. The people who I saw on the first morning were vastly different from the people I said goodbye to on the final evening.
The other reason I liked this trip was the fact that I got to discover my heritage, my roots. We visited Agroha Dham which is a temple complex dedicated to Maharaj Agrasen and Goddess Mahalaxmi. It was a beautiful place, very peaceful. I attended Laxmi Aarti twice and could go to the temple early in the morning to sit for some time in its massive hall all by myself. The idol was incredibly beautiful as well.
And about my lineage — we’re no ordinary humans, we are the children of the sun! Even if that’s metaphorical, at least I’m the descendant to a king. That’s such a cool thing to know! How many can proclaim this? Really, how many?!
Also, Laxmi is our Kuldevi — no wonder we’ve always been wealthiest in town :P
Keeping that aside, it was still really intriguing just to learn about our lineage and a wonderful experience to pay homage to our ancestors. So, this trip was well worth it :D
Next week, about the other trip. (Or something else, IDK)
Bye! Good night! I’ll catch you later!
